We’re bringing your beekeeping education closer to home! In response to member feedback about location, family commitments, and travel distance, BONS will be holding monthly meetings in different locations throughout our region (Clarke, Warren, Frederick, Shenandoah, Fauquier, Loudoun counties, and Winchester city) starting in January 2025.
This rotation will allow more of our 250 members to participate in these valuable educational events.
Here’s what to expect:
- Meeting Schedule: Stay informed! Visit our website (https://bonsbees.com/) regularly for updates on locations and times. We’re finalizing speakers and topics for the entire year, and the full schedule will be posted on the website homepage soon.
- First Meeting: Mark your calendars! The first meeting will be held on Saturday, January 11th, at 1:00 PM at the Handley Library in Winchester (100 W. Piccadilly St., Winchester, VA). (https://www.handleyregional.org/)
- Speaker: We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. T’ai Roulston (https://blandy.virginia.edu/tai-roulston-home-page), who will share his research on mason bees and honeybees at Blandy Farm.
- Bonus Presentations: In addition to the main speaker, expect two short presentations on timely beekeeping topics like burr comb management and entrance reducers (pros and cons).
- Parking: On-street parking is free around the library.
- Future Locations: Get ready to explore! Meetings will be held in various locations throughout the year, including the Front Royal Community Center, Stephens City Bowman Library, and Blandy Farms. A larger picnic is also planned for August at a new, central location (details to come).
We believe these changes will make beekeeping education more accessible and engaging for everyone. We’re committed to continuous improvement and welcome your suggestions!
